What is the challenge?

The BioInnovation Challenge asks students to find a real world health problem, design an innovative solution, and submit a proposal. It lives at the crossroads of biotechnology, computer science, and public health.

How it works

01 Identify a real world problem
02 Design an innovative solution
03 Submit your proposal

Where it lives

The challenge sits at the intersection of biotechnology, computer science, and public health. Strong proposals borrow from all three.

Key dates

Applications Close July 31
Competition Runs August 4 to August 29
Judging Runs September 1 through 7
Winners Announced around September 10

How judging works

Judging is fully asynchronous. Each judge scores submissions from 1 to 5 across five things.

What judges score:

  • Originality
  • Scientific soundness
  • Feasibility
  • Impact
  • Clarity of the pitch

A public spotlight

Winning proposals get featured on both organizations' websites and social channels. It is a public spotlight for their work that they can point to on college apps and resumes.

Mentorship opportunity

Top participants get the chance at one on one mentorship from biotech professionals, researchers, and healthcare investors. That means insider insight, career guidance, project feedback, and real world impact.
